“If you have fear or some pain or suffering, you should examine whether there is anything you can do about it. If you can, there is no need to worry about it; if you cannot do anything, then there is also no need to worry.”
Dalai Lama
Many people are facing challenges, with poor health, financial worries or relationship problems. As a Wellness Coach and Trainer, I meet a lot of people dealing with pain and confusion. I see how anxiety, fear and a lack of direction in life can destabilize and cause tremendous inner turmoil and suffering. And I see how re-connecting spiritually makes such a huge difference.
We humans are all very similar, we seek affection, belonging, our basic needs of food and shelter, we search for happiness, beauty, creativity and love. And beyond all this we seek connection to that which is greater than us, spirit, meaning and purpose; ultimately we seek fulfillment.
Why Cancer, why suffering?
Lately, I have been forced to ask myself the question, why cancer, why suffering? Somewhat like Siddhartha the Buddha, who was pained and shocked by the suffering he witnessed, after being sheltered from it all his life by his parents. When he finally saw aging, illness, death and suffering, everything changed within him, he wanted to share compassion and find an answer. Suffering led him to become a seeker of spirit. Through contemplation and meditation he awakened something deep within, he became enlightened, he became the Buddha; creator of the middle path. We can all learn tools to still the mind and raise our energy and we can all ask searching questions.
If you have personally experienced or witnessed others going through depression, pain, confusion, illness, cancer? (They are all increasing) What do you think they teach us? This is what I am learning as I witness friends, family and clients, some living peacefully with cancer, others struggling with the uncertainty of the disease.
I have learnt to:
- Live more fully, because each breath of this life is so precious
- Love more deeply, because love is the essence, the balm, the medicine.
- Listen more carefully because we are being taught in each moment
- Laugh more openly because it brightens the way
- Let go more easily, because dis-ease causes disease
- Learn more readily because there is great wisdom all around
- Labour less and lighten the load, because life really is so very precious.
May Peace, Love and Blessings surround you always.
